Review: Louis Vuitton Multi Pochette Accessoires
When Louis Vuitton’s Multi Pochette Accessoires burst on the handbag scene it immediately found its way onto my want list. The bag shot to popularity, selling out almost immediately, and in the meantime racking up waitlists of thousands around the globe.
The Multi Pochette is the first Louis Vuitton Monogram bag that I have lusted after in almost 8 years, and my immediate infatuation cemented the fact that I had to have it. I typically make my one big bag buy around the end of the year so the timing seemed to be just right, until I realized that actually getting my hands on one would be nearly impossible.
I put my name on waitlists at several stores as I refused to pay more than retail via a resale site. Finally in late November the bag fell into my hands. After a solid two months of use I’m able to do a deep dive into this hybrid bag. Let’s go!
Aesthetics
The uniqueness of this bag struck a chord with me, which is why I gave it five stars. You either love the cool vibe of a hybrid bag or hate it—I, of course, love it. There’s something about the juxtaposition of classic Louis Vuitton monogram canvas and the modern multi-bag shape. Finished off with a sporty utility crossbody strap, this bag is effortlessly cool.
Usability + Functionality
In terms of usability there’s really not all that much to say. While yes, the bag(s) are on the tinier side, there are enough nooks and crannies to carry everything I need for the day. In the main Pochette I keep my small wallet, and cosmetics case plus gum/other miscellaneous items in the back slit pocket. Then, in the smaller Pochette I store my phone plus a pair of sunglasses in a small microfiber pouch. Other reviews of the bag (which I read/watched prior to buying) discussed the coin pouch as a more useless item, though I’ve found this to be one of my favorite parts of the bag! I keep my headphones and my keys in there for easy access. I’ve even begun hooking it onto/inside other bags as those are the two things I’m always ‘losing’ inside my bag.
Though the bag suits my needs well, I knocked off a half a star due to an issue that’s happened to me a few times. When using the bag as is (all parts connected), more than once I’ve intended to put something in the back Pochette and it’s instead fell through the hole between each bag. A minor issue but an issue nonetheless and something to be mindful of. I almost misplaced my wallet at a bar one evening when it fell on the floor.
Quality + Construction
First created for travel, Louis Vuitton Monogram canvas has a rich history and has been around for over 150 years. As it was originally used in trunk-making, coated canvas is an incredibly durable material, resulting in strong and sturdy bags. My Pochette was made in the USA, which I know has been a topic of concern for many, but thus far I haven’t come across any quality issues.
Price + Value
It’s hard to consider any designer bag a ‘value’ in this day and age, but being that this bag is essentially 4 pieces and retails for $1,640, I’d say this bag comes pretty close. I absolutely love that this bag has so many uses. There’s countless ways to wear it, and additionally you can use the pieces other ways as well. I purchased a monogram strap for my Speedy 25 in Paris ten years ago, and I love that I can use it here as well if I’m wearing something that the Kaki green doesn’t mesh well with. You can see it in action here. Conversely, I’ve used the Kaki green strap with my Speedy 25. I’ve definitely been getting the most out of all of this bag’s pieces so far and for that I’d say the price is definitely right. I did give this a 4, however, because as you’ll read below its staying power is uncertain.
Staying Power
While multi-bags seem to be here to stay, with other premium designers releasing their own versions of this trend, longevity beyond a few seasons is uncertain. That being said I can’t give this bag over 3.5 stars as in two years multi bags may very well be ‘out’.
Overall Rating
Overall, if you’re into the idea of a multi bag and if you’re able to get your hands on the Louis Vuitton Multi Pochette Accessoires, you should. It’s incredibly stylish and easy to wear—it looks cool with most outifits, even a simple sneaker look. Though the staying power of hybrid type bags is uncertain, this bag is still a great buy as all of the pieces are classic enough to be worn on their own. Overall I’m incredibly happy with my purchase of this (somewhat controversial) bag, and at the end of the day that’s all that truly matters.
